Sabah International Folklore Festival (SIFF) provides the opportunities for the culture enthusiasts to enjoy and witness the beauty and uniqueness of cultural dance performance by various ethnics of the world. SIFF is truly meant to be an East-West Cultural rendezvous in promoting peace through culture.

The main objective of the Sabah International Folklore Festival is to promote culture tourism among participating countries and to introduce the state’s rich and unique cultures. The objectives of the event are as follow:

• To promote understanding and goodwill;
• To celebrate mankind brotherhood through cultures;
• To promote culture tourism among participating countries; and
• To promote Sabah as an attractive tourists’ destination in Asia: Malaysia Truly Asia

The Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival (KKJF) is on its eighth edition this year every since it was started in 2007. For 2014, the festival will be held on the 13th and 14th of June this year from 7pm to 11pm.

The Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival 2014 (KKJF) is an annual fund-raising jazz extravaganza jointly organized by the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu (RCKK) and the Society of Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (SPArKS).

Staged in the picturesque Nature Resort City of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, the jazz festival brings together a musical melting pot of talents from around the world. KKJF recorded a crowd of over 4,000 people during the two –night performance.

About the theme

We chose Rise and Rediscover as our theme to celebrate youths and their cultural identity. Sabah is made up of 33 indegenous groups that communicate over 50 languages and 80 ethnic dialects. Sadly, many young people do not know and lost touch of their cultural identity. Among the aspects of culture and identity are language, food, sport, music, customs, beliefs and costumes and the causes of this loss are globalization, modern culture, cultural identity is not taught much in schools, many do not care or have no interest. Another thing that adds to the loss of cultural identity, is that many parents did not pass down the cultural and traditional knowledge to their children.

Voice Out provides an avenue to pass down these knowledge to the younger generation. Through this theme, we hope to create awareness among young people to preserve and be proud of their cultural heritage by portraying the beauty of our cultural traditions through the many areas of art and music that will be showcased during Voice Out.
