KOTA KINABALU, Jun 22, 2014: Electricity blackouts in Sabah will occur over the next several days as a result of gas supply interruption to two new power plants.
Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) official said that on Sunday, they had been informed by Petronas that gas supply to both power plants in Kimanis, about 35kms from the city, would be temporarily halted. The affected power plants were the Kimanis Power Sdn Bhd (KPSB) and SPR Energy independent power producers with a combined generation capacity of 300MW.
The SESB official said due to the power supply shortfall, the utility firm had to impose power cuts on a rotational basis at various areas, each lasting about three hours during peak demand periods. The official said power supply to heavy power users such as industries would also be affected.
