KUALA LUMPUR, May 13, 2014: Inspector- General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said he has raised the recent kidnappings of foreigners in Sabah, at the 34th Asean Chiefs of Police Conference which started in Manila, Philippines yesterday.
“The issue was raised in the context of handling cross-border crimes. The Malaysian police works closely with its Asean counterparts. I have discussed the kidnappings in Sabah with the Philippines police,” he posted on his Twitter account today.
The four-day conference is being held at a hotel in Manila and was opened by President Benigno S. Aquino III.
On May 6, five armed men kidnapped fish farm manager, Yang Zai Lin, 34, who is from Guangzhou, China, at Pulau Baik in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
Whereas on April 2, a group of armed men ambushed the Singamata Adventures and Reef Resort in Semporna, Sabah and abducted Chinese national from Shanghai Gao Hua Yan, 29, and a Filipino resort worker named Marcy Dayawan, 40.
