Ex-restaurant manager gets 12 years jail for raping underage girl

KOTA KINABALU, Feb 3: A former restaurant manager, Riduan Masmud, who raped an underaged girl before marrying her was sentenced to 12 years jail at the Sessions Court here.

The 41-year-old father of four children was also ordered to be caned twice and to be kept under police supervision for a year after serving his sentence.

Judge Ummu Kalthom Abdul Samad however allowed an application for a stay of execution pending an appeal to be filed in the High Court within 14 days by Riduan who was defended by counsel Ram Singh.

Riduan was found guilty on Jan 24 at the same court for raping the 12-year-old girl in Inanam on February 18 last year.

In May he married the girl after a police report was filed against him.

Bail was set at RM15,000 in two sureties.
